Liturgical Art
As a visual artist, I've found that my art often speaks deeply to the spiritual yearnings of viewers. This has led me to create paintings for faith communities to enhance sacred space. I listen closely to the needs of faith groups to create work that speaks to the soul needs of their congregants. In many of my paintings I explore themes of relationship, community, journeying, and trust. My hope is that through my use of color, texture, and visual metaphor, I can create work that aids in worship, asks important questions, and brings viewers closer to one another and to God.
Prodigal Installation 2019
In November, 2018, I was approached by First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley to do a pair of paintings about the prodigal son. In the story, the younger son demanded his inheratance before his father's death and then squandered it. I feel that we have been given a beautiful inheritance in the form of our planet, but we have squandered it as well, and I tried to capture this in the first canvas. But I feel that there is hope; in the second canvas there is restoration and grace, a return to community and healing for our relationships with each other, our planet, and God.
